With over seven minutes of previously unavailable scenes, the director's cut of Lethal Weapon is a long-overdue present for fans. Rigg's solitary homelife and the tragic loss spurring him to a reckless disregard for his own safety now come into greater focus. We see that recklessness in new scenes underlining the differences between the two cops. Murtaugh, just 50, needs reassurance about his skills at a firing range. Riggs, not caring if he sees another birthday, cooly walks into a schoolyard sniper's field of fire. All the humor and adrenaline that made this orignal an entertainment milestone are here, too. No scenes have been removed. But new action and new insight are now included. Include yourself in the excitement

Lethal B+ - 3.75 out of 5 (6/22/2002)
I had read Joel Norst's novelization of this film back in '87, so I knew of the sniper sequence, but had no idea Donner would visualize and cut it together so well. Trading this scene for the Christmas Tree scene must have been one hell of a tough call. The sound on this disc as well as picture are both greatly improved.

bonus scenes add insight into riggs character - 3.75 out of 5 (2/5/2002)
the directors cut of Lethal Weapon is amazing, those extra 7 minutes almost change riggs image. The scenes of him alone at home, and picking up a prostitute to watch tv show that not only is he a suicidal timebomb, but he's also lonely. The school yard sniper scene also shows that he has a heart. great movie, greta dvd quality, and awesome sound.

Good version of a classic... - 4 out of 5 (12/3/2000)
If you had the previous version of this DVD, and you're a fan of the series, then you should get this Director's Cut. With about 7 minutes of unreleased footage, it includes among some other stuff, a scene of a sniper killing children at a school, and... you guessed right, Riggs comes to the rescue!
Besides, this DVD has a DTS soundtrack which sounded above average on my system.
For the 14.95 I got it, I think the purchase was worth it.
